Convergences – Journal of Research and Arts Education is a Diamond Open Access scientific journal with electronic and print ISSNs, dedicated to publishing original peer-reviewed research in the fields of design, music, and visual arts.

Convergences – Journal of Research and Arts Education is a Diamond Open Access scientific journal that publishes original peer-reviewed research in the fields of design, music, and visual arts, free of charge for both authors and readers. Through Fundamental Research Papers, Case Reports and Review Papers, the journal disseminates contributions from researchers, scholars and practitioners that advance knowledge in these fields, including their areas of application, histories, practices, and teaching and learning processes.

The journal addresses an international community of researchers, scholars, practitioners and students working across the fields of design, music and visual arts.

Convergences is an open access journal. All content is immediately available free of charge to users and their institutions, and no submission, processing or publication fees are charged to authors (no APCs – Article Processing Charges). Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without prior permission from the publisher or authors, in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative BOAI's definition of open access.

 

 

Purpose

Convergences recognizes the importance of research in design, music and visual arts, both within each discipline and across their intersections and convergences. Research through and from practice can foster exploratory approaches and generate new knowledge through creative processes, practice-based experience and user-centered approaches.

Research into teaching and learning contributes to the systematization and dissemination of knowledge, supporting the development of pedagogical approaches, learning environments, interfaces and tools that enhance understanding, engagement and knowledge transfer.

Research based on existing knowledge can help identify, organize, analyze, and relate dispersed evidence and data, generating new interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives.

The journal welcomes disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research addressing theoretical, methodological, historical and applied questions in design, music and visual arts. This includes research into their histories, theories, methods, practices, processes and forms of education, as well as research addressing contemporary educational, cultural, social, technological, aesthetic and symbolic challenges.

The convergences among design, music, and visual arts provide a relevant field for investigating methods, principles, practices, and experiences, as well as their relationships with technological developments and other areas of knowledge. By bringing together research across these fields, the journal seeks to expand creative and scientific perspectives, contribute to the development of new research approaches, methods and practices, and advance understanding of the cognitive, social and cultural dimensions of design, music and visual arts.

 

Periodicity

Convergences is published twice a year, in May and November, and accepts manuscripts in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

 

Call for papers

The call for papers is permanently open. Convergences publishes two issues per year, in May and November.

 

Aim and scope

Convergences aims to provide an international forum for researchers, scholars and practitioners to disseminate and discuss original research in design, visual arts and music.

The journal welcomes theoretical, methodological, empirical and practice-based research that contributes new knowledge, perspectives, methods, practices, processes and approaches within these fields. It also encourages interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research that addresses the relationships among design, visual arts, and music, as well as their intersections with other fields of knowledge, professional practices, education, society, culture, and technology.

 

Peer Review Process

Convergências Journal has adopted a double-blind peer-review system. The editor conducts an initial analysis of the submitted manuscripts, ensuring their suitability to Convergências' scope and editorial policy, anonymity, article presentation format according to the guidelines and template, and potential for publication. If approved at this stage, the manuscript is sent for evaluation by two or more reviewers.
Articles are submitted to a maximum of three rounds of review, not to exceed five months. The evaluation process is double-blind, protecting the identities of authors and reviewers and ensuring impartiality in the peer review system.
The evaluation is conducted by national and international reviewers with a PhD and experience in the subject matter of the submitted manuscripts.

 

Plagiarism Checking Policy

The editorial team uses specific software to check for plagiarism before the manuscript is sent for peer review. In cases of plagiarism, Convergências Journal adopts the Principles of Ethics and negligence statement set out in its Ethics statement, which follows the recommendations of Elsevier, SciELO, and the Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
All submissions are checked by Turnitin for plagiarism and for the unethical or unauthorized use of artificial intelligence tools.

 

Open Access Policy

Convergências provides immediate open access to its content without requiring readers to register to read, and allows readers to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or reference partially or entirely the texts, process them for indexing, as input data for software programs, or use them for any other legal purpose, without financial barrier, within the legal and technical framework. Archiving

In addition to exporting metadata to various databases, since 2020, Convergences Journal articles have been included in the SciELO Portugal collection and preserved through PKP PN and Internet Archive. The journal is also listed in DOAJ, Sherpa/Romeo and the Scientific Repository of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (currently named Polytechnic University of Castelo Branco), and is indexed by Scopus.
The printed version of the Journal is delivered to the ISSN National Center of the National Library of Portugal and to the catalog of the Library of the School of Applied Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco.
Authors can self-archive, namely by deposit in institutional or thematic repository (Preprint, Accepted Manuscript or Published Article), as well as in social networks, namely dedicated to research.

We do not include any kind of advertisements from entities outside the IPCB. Our policy of almost zero advertising makes an exception for promoting research congresses within the scope of our journal that are initiatives of the IPCB, provided there is no conflict of interest between the advertising and the content we publish.
